Yes I would consider using these suggestions. Tip #2” Do The Work” is something that I see myself putting into my everyday routine. Simply taking time out of my day to write would allow me to understand the type of writer I am and also would allow me to push myself to reach my best potential. I can not add anything to the list of suggestions because I feel that they all apply to me. First I would need to implement these suggestions to improve my writing before I add or remove any of them from the list. I am glad that this is one of the blog topics. It has really helped me to see my potential in my writing.

My favorite piece that we did was at the Broadcast assignment. Television is my passion and I enjoyed learning how to create the proper set up for a news broadcast. I found it interesting that news stories seem to be about two minutes long but are actually about 30 seconds.

At the beginning of the semester it was hard for me to write short sentences and get straight to the point. The lead sentence is a very complex sentence that seems easy to write but by being a long winded writer its hard to change my ways. I overcame my issue by drafting lead sentences over and over again. Most of my assignment grades ended up being C’s which I was not happy with, but I know my writing will become better over time. I am hard on myself and those grades pushed me to become better. On our last major assignment I received a B as a grade and became overwhelmed with excitement. I know that I will become better and I can not wait for the day that I become a news anchor. I am very excited to take my upper level courses, I know that they will not be easy but I believe that I have finally found a major to fits my personality and that will continue to make me happy.

I am very grateful that I was able to take this course, it really helped me understand the various media styles of writing. Thank You- Sophomore Broadcast Journalism Major Billie Biggs

I personally love broadcast news writing and would pick it over print news writing any day. Broadcast writing is simple and straight to the point. Even though there are abbreviations that one has to understand, broadcast writing draws attention of the news anchor. Broadcast differs from print because it uses a set templet that one MUST follow and also it uses abbreviations. These two  styles of writing are similar in some ways. One way is that it gives a clear audience.

Broadcast news appeals to those persons watching television. Some criticisms of broadcast news is that it is a hard field to find a good job in, and that some persons may become offended over the things that are portrayed in television. I think that broadcast news can overcome these criticisms by finding a new way to create jobs for college graduates. Also the way messages are being portrayed can be edited to not sound so negative.

There is a great importance to know who you are writing too. Allowing your reader to understand who the public is, is an important goal. If the intended public is not clear; the message will not get across. In my press release I stated that Southern Miss students and citizens from the Hattiesburg area would also be in attendance. A press release and a news article are similar because of the heading, choosing an audience, and by allowing the reader to know that the release and/or article is finished. If someone is writing a press release for a newspaper or online journal that person would not that have the same amount of space that someone writing a news article would. News articles are longer than press releases.

Some challenges I faced while writing my print story was getting straight to the point and writing short sentences. I love creative writing, I feel that it gives me the freedom to express myself and draw my audience in. I approached the assignment head on. I can say that yes I reviewed my notes for some help. I only went through 2 drafts, but I think that I should have created more drafts. I am not very confident with my editing because I lack in the spelling department but I am confident in catching my grammar errors.

The most challenging aspect of writing a lead was gathering my thoughts and putting them into such a small compact sentence. The least challenging aspect was editing my lead. I am looking forward to writing the rest of my story because it gives you somewhat of “freedom” to get the facts across.

I think that this is a good lead : RICHFIELD, Minn. (AP) — Best Buy on Saturday announced the locations of 50 stores that it is closing this year, including seven in California, six in Illinois and six in the company’s home state of Minnesota.

I do feel that media is taking over the integrity of journalism. With media there is no room for journalist to introduce news to the public. In the modern day most news is found within media. If you noticed television shows, realtiy television, and commericals are starting to add twitter url’s so that viewers can add their opinion.

I think that the inverted pyramid will still be beneficial to readers. The audience is only really interested in the “most important” facts or the “most eye catching.” It is our role as journalists to spread the news so the public can be aware of all things good or bad.

engraving in bark

Dreams start to dance around in my mind & nothing else seems to matter than the handsome Tree standing in the wilderness. The closer it becomes explored, the more my hands begin to reach out in hopes of touching anything as simple a piece of bark.

In the black and white wilderness nothing else had color beside the vivid Tree which stands alone. The longer I sat under its branches, the more I felt safe and protected in its trunk.

But how long will this last..? How long will this Tree allow me to feel safe under its branches? Spend long hours in its warmth, and engrave my thoughts deep in its bark?

The Tree will never become my personal Tree, but a Tree birthed for everyone. A Tree that gives off light to those that have journeyed into its world. The marks I made will never go erased or burned. My emotions for this Tree will forever live and forever be true. Maybe God placed it into my life for a growing experience. But as I pray I know that if the Tree and I ever relive this dream to the physical eye sight, the marks we make will forever be the light to the dark wilderness in which we live.

I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”
